For carers and families

A proper break, without the phone calls

You look after someone every day. Carer Cover finds trusted, registered care so you can rest, work, see friends or go away, knowing they're safe.

What you get

Everything arranged for you

Confirmed within 72 hours

Tell us the dates. We find the cover and confirm it, usually within three days for planned breaks.

Registered, checked carers

We only book providers registered with the CQC and rated Good or Outstanding. Their staff have enhanced DBS checks.

A care passport, filled in once

Medicines, routines, likes and dislikes, emergency contacts. Shared with whoever covers, so you don't explain it all again.

Paying for your break

Use the support you already have

  • Council direct payment. If your council gives you a carer's direct payment, you can use it to book.
  • Card. Pay the provider's price plus a small booking fee, shown before you book.
  • Your employer. Some employers will offer break credits for staff who care for someone.

Not had a carer's assessment yet? Your council must offer one. We'll explain how to ask.

Questions from carers

Before you join

Can I book at short notice?

Planned breaks are confirmed within 72 hours. We'll also try to help in emergencies, such as if you need to go into hospital, but we can't promise same-day cover.

What if the person I care for has dementia?

Tell us in the care passport. We only offer providers whose staff are trained for their needs.

Do I have to use a care home?

No. You can choose a sitter at home, a day centre place or a short stay, whichever suits you both.

Is Carer Cover a care provider?

No. We arrange breaks with providers that are registered with the CQC. They deliver and supervise the care.
